lepakshi

lepakshi is a small town 140kms from Bangalore.. in the Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh... a heritage site of Vijayanagara empire ...and about 400+ years old.

the temple complex is huge... with loads of legends.. some sculpted into its walls.. some painted on its  beautiful roof... hire a guide to listen to unbelievable stories. the temple is a functional one.

to add to the amazement is this huge heavy pillar hanging down from the roof! 

legend has it that among the 80 odd pillars in this temple, this particular pillar is the one that holds the whole structure together! like the saying goes 'mano ya na mano'
